I have never been a big fan of putting a lots of products on my babies as I think that you can risk irritating their skin so I kept it very simple and used a Burt’s Bees wash and moisturiser which is a 99.9% natural product. This was fine for several months but then very quickly I began to notice that my LO’s skin was becoming rough and red and very quickly it turns into raging eczema.
All three of my little ones have had eczema but the older two have grown out of it thankfully. But my 5 month old had it really bad. Having tried lots of stuff including emollients like Epiderm, Hydromol from the doctors various oils etc, normal Aveeno cream from the UK, it was still raging on and nothing was working. I also didn’t want to put steroids on his skin as too much use of these thins the skin. I tried 2 things that have worked amazingly!!! Firstly bathing him with a muslin cloth with porridge oats in (tied with a hair band) instead of any wash products. It’s crazy! It kind of forms its own liquid soap by squeezing it! I squeeze it into the bath and it creates a milky water and then I wash him using the little bag.
The other thing which I think is a massive part of his skin recovery is Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Cream. Now this is not available to purchase in the UK as readily as the normal Aveeno (which I tried and made no difference to his eczema) and it is a bit expensive but OMG it works!!! Hallelujah!!!! To be fair I would give anything not to see him suffering with the itching and because it works its worth every penny. I ordered from Biovea they have 15% off for new customers for a limited time only so take advantage of that! So ordered a whack of it once I found out it worked!
His skin is amazingly good and feels so smooth now, it took only a few days to notice a big difference. I wish I had taken a before and after picture so that you could see! I use it at each nappy change but I think now its under control I will use it twice or three times a day. I cannot recommend it enough. So if you are struggling to get your little ones eczema under control I would definitely give it a try.
